THE WAY BACK In September 2022 Rob Warner signed off on the Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup. It had been his life for nearly 3 decades. After a turbulent racing career he transitioned into being the sports commentator. Raw and unsolicited it was the beginning of a new era of broadcasting. Through his unmatchable knowledge, enthusiasm and love of downhill he became the voice of mountain biking....

After riding my Giant Reign in whistler and deciding it was the best thing since E bikes :) I couldn’t wait to get back on it, so a phone call was made and one of the best days ever was had. Good times with two of the best in the game, Bike Park Wales delivering the trails

A chance meeting on the mountain at Crankworx with Greg Callaghan leads to more than one wild moment as he takes me down in one run at the end of the day. It's "all good" he said! First time out on my new Giant Reign, and I absolutely fell in love with it, if its lift access then that's the bike for me. Made with the finest part known to man... Thanks for the video. I bought my first mountain bike in 1986, a Peugot, do they still make bikes! I bought it because it meant I could ride further cross country in a day than I could walk. Mountain bikes for me have always been about adventure, certainly not bike parks although I still enjoy riding blues and occasional red trails and I am now in my late 70's. Why am I still doing it? I bought an emtb five years ago and haven't looked back. So I can relate to your story and Rob, you have many years to go yet. Boy, do I miss your commentary on the downhill though and we don't get the coverage that we used to.
Nice shot at 14:39
Haha I love Peaty and the way he winds Warner up 😂 - miss these bike tour visits.
Been into bike since forever and still ride a Giant Box one with a lot of mods down hill at the age of 53, im not stopping and the man responsible is the one and only sir Rob Warner the Voice and British king of DH.
i am inspired, thank you.
Awesome video Rob, I’m 61 and my best days are out on the trails, went to FOD the other day 25miles of exhilaration received a fresh track rash on the second run just didn’t faze me, e-bikes rock!
I love this video as my Mum is in the background at 4:11. She was a lot more poorly than she looked and this was the last time she went to the FoD. She passed away a few months later in May 2023 😭 Fcuk cancer
the TV went in 99 and Sprung started World Cup coverage the same year, then followed by Earthed we did the best to cover racing and fill that void., obvs nothing like TV but coverage but we kept the vibe going. Rob might not know but I recommended him to Ray at Freecatser for the commentary job. Rob was always destined to be the voice of MTB and no one can take that away now.
Inspirational stuff Rob, well done 👏 and great to hear you on the podcasts 🤘
@discoverykeeprobwarner
I'm going to be 56 soon. I've been MTB'n since 89. Raced NORBA XC and DH in the 90's and 2k's. I just trail ride and occasionally park when I can. Rob, we need Red Bull to get the DH commentary back. Those guys over there are hacks. A complete snore fest.
Tv era dh must have ruled. The parties and all that
What happened to your early 90s world cup winner bike rebuild( so what if it pissed it down after your winning run, okay , washing out the chances of anyone betting your time done in almost perfect conditions might have been a factor,.. but a win is a win and your a world champion..) Ive a 1987 XJS in mint condition when stored away 25 years ago, a barn fined rebuild. Sorry to go off on a random note, oh nice spec that bike of yours,, where you storing your bikes ,, not in that container next to the hay barn?? It'll get damp in there mate..😂😢😏😔🤐
He dresses it up well these days but he openly didn’t train and laughed about doing the bare minimum to get by in the 90s
Legend, absolute legend. 👍🤙
The legend that is the Egg!✊
Brilliant.... But what brand of beard dye do you use
The only reason I do watch world cups was because of Rob’s commentating, for the love of god bring him back!!!
Great video, bloody legend keep up the good work Rob. 👌👍
Top Man
Fucking legend. You rule san.
Really missing your content Rob, the bikepark stuff from just over a year ago was my favourite YT content. Any plans to do more?
For all the same reasons that I got an ebike.. I fell in love with mtb again and the adventures I've been on my eeb I'd never ever would have dreamt off before ❤
Yeah Rob! WIll follow if you lead! Love this shit.
Loved this… very open, honest and sensitively put Rob ❤ The cinematography is also top notch 👌
Good man Rob
Great video awesome delivery it’s what all of need as mountain bikes , fine the love again ❤❤❤
"proves you don't need to be in your early 20's to still enjoy mountain biking" lol Rob you're so out of touch with regular guy fitness. Love you tho
Thanks Rob, you continue to be an inspiration, I saw the TRC video and it was hard to watch seeing your true pure emotions coming out but seeing you back is great, your presence on the MTB commentary is still sorely missed, hopefully one day we'll get you back instead of the stupid Irish twat we currently have.
Fuck me I think you need some new front tires on ya van mate lol
Rob, it wouldnt be the same without you mate. We all love you brother
Awesome Rob. There’s so much respect for you in the mtb world 🙌
The next chapter begins. Inspired 👊
Legend, thanks for everything you do Rob, you give it life and make so many people happy. Luv ya Dude.
when we lived and breathed mtb in the 90s, we would cheer when RW dropped out of the gates. He only raced for the fun. He was us, he was the only one we related to. We all had one mtb to cycle to the trails, one bike to ride and race XC to DH and ride home again.
isn't Rob riding for Giant now?
Yip been at it for knocking on 34 years must say my recent purchase of a emtb has turned the clock back 30 years for me, best bit of coin I've spent for years, keep at it rob
That's proper Rob!!!!
Well in rob, never met you, but love you all the same
Rob Warner back to school with Red Bull 😀 but look where its got you
look at the timeeee! absolute legend you are rob!
E-bikes!!
I’m sorry but how has rob only got 46,000 subscribers? He’s a legend ffs
Couldn’t agree more, he is an amazing personality
been inspired by Rob since back in the 90s and really miss him on the world cup commentary. I truly believe that Rob was one of, if not, the most significant influence on E-MTBing. For years i and most others had looked down on E-Bikes as cheating and not real MTBs and then Rob came along on a YT video and he just made it make sense. I love my Ebike and my normal MTB and i will be eternally grateful to Rob for helping me see the light. Cheers Rob
Hey Rob! Never forget the day we met at the GianT Trailer in Mount Saint Anne 2001.. Your high energy personality gave me the inspiration needed to enjoy racing! That power today your still Strive WorldWide !! Sigue así mi pana ! Eres un Pionero un Gamechanger! Gracias !
Always relevent! Miss you in the UCI tv booth!!!
Rob fell into the hole that a lot of athletes do. Had enough of it and hated it. Then rediscover it at a new level with no pressure of competition and find the joy again. Good luck Rob, you are still the voice of mountain bike.
Fuck yeah rob warner legendary
King
thanks rob as a 50 year old raced dh for years lost the love rode mx and now a massive ebike rider never thought id like riding up hill on a mtb and miss you commentary as I'm sure we all do not being able not watch uci
